Ukrainian dual-use companies are now eligible for EU funding

Ukrainian dual-use companies are now eligible for EU funding of €300–500K.
At a recent BRAVE1 event focused on EU and Ukrainian support for defence tech, Martin Jõesaar from the EU Defence Innovation Office in Kyiv outlined a new €20M Horizon Europe initiative launching in mid-July. The program will provide direct grants to Ukrainian entities advancing cybersecurity, AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and space tech.

In the meantime, early-stage innovators can apply for the EIC Pre-Accelerator, which supports deep-tech startups in “widening countries” — including Ukraine — to strengthen their business and investment readiness.

While Ukrainian entities are not yet eligible for direct grants under the European Defence Fund (EDF), there are still opportunities:
▫️ Ukrainian companies can provide services for EDF projects
▫️ EU-based entities with Ukrainian ownership can fully participate in EDF-funded projects

Beyond grants, growth relies on global partnerships. Two key platforms mentioned during the event are worth exploring:

🔺 ASD Connect — Europe’s largest defence cluster, bringing together 4500+ entities:
🔺 EUDIS Matchmaking — linking innovators with investors and industrial leaders across Europe
