This allows cyber security and IT teams to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, thereby improving their prevention and response strategies.

The other partners in the project are Thales, Indra, Airbus, Leonardo, etc. In total, 39 European defense industry companies are participating in the group. Including the Estonian IT company Nortal.

The Citadel project budget is 60 M€, of which 2 M€ will come to Estonia.

Why did Estonia get such an important part? Estonia is home to the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) multiverse of cyber ranges CR14.  Foundation CR14 was established by Estonian Ministry of Defence on 1st of January 2021 and is based on more than 10 years of Cyber Range experience of cyberspace trainings, exercises, testing, validation and experimentation. CR14 is a government owned and operated entity, which offers cybersecurity related research and development for domestic and international partners. Cyber Range is a virtual environment that is used for cybersecurity training and development of dual-use innovative technologies using cyberspace. It provides tools that help to strengthen the security and performance of cyber infrastructures and IT systems leading to secure and trustworthy products and well-educated personnel.

Thanks to this, Estonian companies were also involved.
